Some talking points for today and Wednesday

Today I would like to take a look at a fascinating hyperlocal news site called Homicide Watch, which covers every murder that takes place in Washington. The site has been in the news lately because of its financial challenges. If you happen to get a look at this before class, please read David Carr’s story in the New York Times.

On Wednesday, I want to spend some time talking about this week’s reading about the future of journalism. To supplement that, please read a new piece by Clay Shirky, titled “Failing Geometry,” that appears in the current Columbia Journalism Review.
